Wrangler Blue Bell – Part 2

Continuing with our feature on Blue Bell, here’s part 2 of our brief history on this iconic brand.

1943, in the middle of a raging World War, Blue Bell buys a work wear company called Casey Jones. Within the C.J. brand portfolio there is a line called “Wrangler”, a name registered but never used.

In 1945 Blue bell introduced the “qualitag”, a small booklet accompanying each garment, giving the buyer care instructions and a money back guarantee. The Qualitag came in a variety of forms, depending on the line and the Target. For example the wrangler tags were introduced in 1948 and were meant to appeal to the whole family in the form of comic booklets featuring Jim Shoulders. These can now fetch as much as $300 by collectors.

In 1947, the Employees of Blue Bell were asked to submit a name for these new jeans and from these the name Wrangler was chosen. This being the nickname for someone who works with animals, in other words, a true Cowboy.
